Walk by the Spirit

Sitting with the Lord expectantly. Believing to hear from the Holy Spirit with no idea of what He might lay on my heart but I’m open to his leadership. Doing a study of Galatians and it says that Apostle Paul is the first and only one to say, Walk by the Spirit. That he only mentions it one time. To walk by the Spirit. What does that mean? I don’t think that we are randomly guided by the Holy Spirit. And we are supposed to just fly by the seat of our pants and live at whim. I believe that to walk by the Spirit requires intentionality. We purpose to be led by Him. And that we as believers have that access to the Spirit. How much access depends on how willing we are to be led by Him. It is somewhat mystical but for all practicality it is a very real experience. The Holy Spirit is a real presence in the life of the believer. Walking by the Spirit leads to life. Life filled with joy, love, peace, patience, goodness, meekness, tolerance, self control, etc. All the things that walking by the flesh does not produce. Walking by the Spirit is not impossible when we aren’t afraid to live a yielded life. I didn’t say perfect I said yielded. Meaning I’m not setting myself up for failure by thinking that I will get it right all the time. I’m not focused on the mess ups because that gets me distracted. I confess, repent and am restored to right standing with God. Instead I’m focused on the grace and love of Christ that draws me to Him. Instead I’m yielding moment by moment to the leading of the Holy Spirit. My heart is open, my mind is tuned and my actions follow. Walking by the Spirit is intentional and takes practice. I hesitate to use the word discipline because I think that word intimidates people sometimes. Discipline takes consistency and is not acquired overnight. Discipline comes with being led by the Spirit. So no need to be intimidated by that word. Discipline is attainable and takes a process to develop it. I trust the Holy Spirit to lead me. What I love about the Lord is his patience and grace that allows me the time I need to grow on my walk with Him. He sees my heart even when I am not there yet. There meaning the ongoing work that He is completing in me until He returns. If everyone were to be honest, none of us have arrived. But we can encourage each other to stay close to the Lord and to give Him our hearts day after day. There’s a sweet spot that comes with knowing that we always have an advocate in Jesus. Who understands our entire journey, good, bad & ugly as we navigate our path. Who is always interceding by the Spirit to the Father on our behalf. Walking by the Spirit means that we intentionally seek guidance, direction and follow as obediently as we can on this life journey. And if we get off track we continue to draw closer instead of running away. We leave those issues at the foot of the cross and we walk away by the Spirit into abundant life. Free, believing and conquering! Walking by the Spirit leads to a life of victory over our issues, darkness, problems and setbacks. We may experience them but we won’t be overcome by them. No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

Sharing my morning musings…We are always moving in some direction or another. My prayer is that we will walk by the Spirit who lives inside of the believer. He is our compass.
