Destiny Happens in Moments Tied to Other People’s Moments

Sitting with the Lord…

Sitting with the Lord and listening to the Holy Spirit talk to me about destiny. I’ve typically looked at destiny as this great final arrival in my life where all my dreams and hopes are realized. A final stopping place of complete fulfillment where I can rest on my successes and exhale at last! But the Holy Spirit has been talking to me and redefining my perspective on destiny. This week I’ve watched destiny unfold regarding the life of my love as people have dropped by to visit. Listening to their narration of unique stories about my “peculiar” man and how he has blessed their lives. As I listened and reflected this morning, it dawned on me that destiny happens a moment at a time. Moments like the young man who worked at a grocery store cleaning floors and bathrooms described during his visit with us. He described how he noticed this man walking the whole store looking at the floors when he was cleaning them. He would always stop and speak to him and comment on how well he cleaned floors. He said another time he came back again and inspected the bathrooms and commented to him about how he cleaned the bathrooms. The young man said little did I know I was being interviewed for a job because one day he handed me his card and said come see me about a job with more pay and benefits. The young man who wasn’t from here said I didn’t know how I was going to make it in Winston Salem but he gave me a chance and then gave me a second chance. Who knew that moment when we walked in that store and noticing the floors would lead to a young man being able to provide for his family.

Yes, destiny happens by moments that are tied to other people’s moments.

I’m just now getting it but my husband has always gotten it. No wonder his favorite quote that he signs off on his emails by Dr. M. L. King, Jr. is: “In a real sense all life is inter-related. All men are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be, and you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be…
This is the inter-related structure of reality.”

Sharing my morning musings. Remember destiny happens in moments. Be a part of someone’s destiny today. 09/21/2019
