Celebration is Good for the Soul
Sitting with the Lord and thinking about celebration. I had the pleasure of attending the “Courage to Care” awards presented by my brother, Ralph Bryant’s law firm. He asked me to help him to present the Black Educator Appreciation awards for him that night. He honored several people who were doing great things in our communities. People who are modern day “good Samarittans.” He shared a speech about Jesus’ parable that Martin Luther King, Jr. later used in a speech to encourage us to care for one another. He wanted to honor black educators because they are often undervalued. We had an Aunt Nannie who epitomized the essence of the good Samaritan teacher in our lives growing up but also on the lives of the children that she taught. He encouraged all award recipients with the words our father told him, “Son, God sees the good that you do.” And so we celebrated them. And boy did we celebrate! I have to say when we get together as a people, we know how to celebrate. The joy, the laughter, the fun, the dancing and singing, oh it was a party. The levity filled the room and lightened the soul. So as I sit with the Lord, I’m reminded how important it is to take the time to celebrate each other. The Bible says, “And let us consider how we can spur each other onto good works.” One way to encourage each other onto good works is to celebrate together! In this case, celebrate those who have the Courage to Care. So in honor of those of you who are doing kind acts for others, who are going above and beyond, who are giving of your time, energy and resources just because you have the courage to care. We celebrate you! God sees the good that you do.
Just sharing my morning musings. Celebration is good for the soul. Find a reason to celebrate someone today!
